Ruby Magnifier

  • Can I also play my photos one after the other on the RUBY?

Yes, with the RUBY HD and RUBY XL HD you can get a slideshow of all the photos stored on the RUBY. The photos are played in alphabetical order. If you want a different order, you must transfer the photos to your computer (see manual) and adjust the names there so that they correspond alphabetically to the desired order. You can then move the photos back to your RUBY. You can start the slideshow from Storage mode. You activate Storage Mode by pressing the Red button for six seconds. After this, start the slideshow by pressing the Green/Yellow button and, while holding it down, briefly press the Blue Arrow Up button. To stop the slideshow, press the Red button for three seconds. You will then return to Live mode.

  • My Ruby turns itself off when I’m reading. What can I do about it?

This is normal behaviour. If no button has been pressed for 30 minutes, the RUBY will switch itself off to prevent the batteries from draining.

  • When reading with the RUBY I suffer from glare on the paper. Can anything be done about that?

The glare on glossy paper is probably caused by the RUBY’s LED lights. You can turn the LED lights on and off by pressing the Green/Yellow button together with the Red button.

OrCam

  • Can the OrCam Read be connected to hearing Aids?

OrCam (version 9.3 or newer) supports wireless streaming to Starkey Livio Edge AI hearing aids. To pair with Starkey hearing aids, follow the normal protocol for Bluetooth pairing with the OrCam device. Starkey hearing aids’ pairing mode is activated simply by powering the hearing aids off and then on. This triggers the pairing mode for 2 to 3 minutes. Note that the OrCam device cannot be connected to the mobile-app while connected to Starkey hearing aids. In addition, the OrCam can also be paired directly with Phonak Audéo Marvel hearing aids. Currently we do not support direct streaming on additional devices. It may be possible, however, to connect to Bluetooth hearing aids using an extra proprietary device you wear as a necklace (Bluetooth streamer). It is recommended to consult with a professional audiologist and confirm compatibility before purchasing a streamer for this matter. If you have any further questions about compatibility with your hearing aids, please feel free to contact us.

  • How much is the OrCam?

There are 4 models of the OrCam devices. The prices are:

    • OrCam MyEye Smart – £2700
    • OrCam MyEye Pro – £3700
    • OrCam Read 3 – £1890

Prices exclude VAT and carriage where applicable.

  • The OrCam is not reading text properly

To take a good quality picture with the OrCam Read please ensure the following:

    • The camera lens is directly in facing the text, and the lens is not obscured or dirty. The camera can only read text within its field of view.
    • The text is at 90 degrees to the camera.
    • If the device is angled too far forward the device will misread the text and say that the text is upside down.
    • There is good lighting.
    • Even in daylight we recommend turning on as many lights as possible to ensure there is adequate lighting for the device to see the text.
